Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both lawyers. As a young girl, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. Emma was just six when she decided she wanted to become an actress. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. When she was 10 years old, Emma took part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theatre instructor. After eight consistent auditions director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast to play the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The movie set records in terms of the opening weekend and numbers, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, particularly the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma was later awarded five prizes in recognition of her work in the film.
